Course Overview

This module lays out the foundational knowledge for Understanding the Self. "Knowing oneself is critical to being an effective team member" and being successful in life, work, and relationships. (Eiri's Public Schools, n.d.) Your identity influences everything you do, and it changes and evolves.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • -discuss different representations and conceptualizations of the self from various disciplinal perspectives;
  • -examine different influences, factors, and forces that shape the self;
  • -compare and contrast how the self has been represented across different disciplines and perspectives; and
  • -demonstrate critical and reflective thought in analyzing the development of one’s self and identity by developing the theory of the self.
